About QSS
UC Santa Cruz has a strong commitment to queer studies, GLBTQI (Gay, Lesbian Bisexual, Trans, Queer and Intersex) Studies, and the critical study of sexualities and genders, evident in a wide range of course offerings, faculty interest, and research programs in these areas. Courses with queer content can be found in departments such as Anthropology, Critical Race & Ethnic Studies, Feminist Studies, Film + Digital Media, History, History of Consciousness, Legal Studies, Literature, Sociology, and Theater Arts.
The Lionel Cantú GLBTI Resource Center prepares a quarterly listing of course offerings with queer content, available at http://queer.ucsc.edu or via email at queer@ucsc.edu.
Although UCSC does not yet have a major or minor in Queer and Sexuality Studies, majors such as Feminist Studies, Sociology and Literature, to name a few, have sufficient flexibility to allow students to design a course of study that will enable them to explore these interests.
For students who prefer to take a more self-directed course of study, learn more about designing an independent major here.
Events and research related to queer studies occur throughout the campus. In addition to the programs of the Lionel Cantú GLBTI Resource Center, the Center for Cultural Studies has a research cluster on Queer Theory and sponsors other research clusters and events related to queer and GLBTQI topics.
